Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, has announced a bold initiative that could shake up the entire Bitcoin mining landscape: Tether is open-sourcing its Bitcoin Mining Operating System (MOS). The goal? To crush centralized dominance and give power back to small miners — all while boosting network security.
“A horde of new Bitcoin mining companies will be able to enter the game and compete to keep the network safe. No need anymore of any 3rd party hosted software.”
This isn’t just another dev tool. Tether’s MOS is built for flexibility — whether you’re a hobbyist mining with a Raspberry Pi or running a full-blown mining farm with redundant mainframes and tens of thousands of ASICs.
“The Mining OS is extremely scalable, resilient and modular, built with a peer-to-peer IoT architecture at its core,” Ardoino explained.
It’s the kind of architecture that fits everything from homegrown setups to enterprise-scale mining farms.
MOS already includes plugins for:
Even better? Developers can build custom plugins, and Tether welcomes contributions to its open codebase. This is a platform built for builders.
Ardoino teased what’s coming next: an AI-powered upgrade via Tether’s QVAC platform.
“I envision future QVAC integration to build better reports and enhance production/performance based on custom AI tools that learn from the huge datasets generated by the Mining OS.”
Imagine a system that not only runs your rigs, but learns from them. That’s where this is headed.
This isn’t just about crypto bros with warehouses of ASICs. Ardoino sees a new generation of small and mid-sized businesses — especially those with solar panels — using their excess electricity to mine Bitcoin.
“Also lots of small/mid-sized businesses that produce their electricity (solar, ...) will soon start mining with the excess. MOS will make their life easier.”
It’s about lowering the barriers and spreading the hash power.
The open-source release is scheduled for Q4 2025. Tether promises:
This isn’t vaporware — it’s a real push toward mining democratization, code-first and censorship-resistant.
“Make Mining Great Again,” Ardoino said — and he’s not joking.
Tether is unleashing its Bitcoin Mining OS to the public — for free. It's modular, scalable, and compatible with everything from Raspberry Pis to mega-farms. With built-in plugin support, open contribution, and future AI integration, it’s poised to level the mining playing field. Paolo Ardoino’s message is clear: mining belongs to the many, not the few.
